Senior Program Officer, K-12 Education

The Walton Family Foundation is seeking a skilled, highly motivated and entrepreneurial individual to join the Foundation as a Senior Program Officer.

About the Position

You’ll join a top-notch team and manage a diverse portfolio of grants and projects in service of the Education Program’s Strategy 2025 goals. The ideal candidate will bring a growth mindset to the work of executing the Program’s mission: to increase access to high-quality education that puts opportunity and a self-determined life in reach for every child, especially those most in need.

What You Will Do

Strategy & Execution

  • Lead and support regional and/or topical strategies, ensuring alignment of grants with the Education Program’s vision and mission.
  • Identify new partnerships and opportunities to strengthen impact, including with prospective grantees, coalition partners and aligned funders.
  • Develop and manage strategic and meaningful relationships with regional and/or topic-specific partners, and develop and share insights with colleagues to inform progress towards goals, future planning and go-forward strategy execution.
  • Help refine investment strategies and operating approaches based on learning and outcomes.

Partnerships & Support

  • Be an exceptional partner to grantees throughout the grant development process, including building strong relationships, performing due diligence on proposals, moving proposals through the Foundation’s approval process in a timely manner and monitoring progress toward goals
  • Support grantees in developing and implementing strategies that lead to the achievement of strategic goals
  • Be a thoughtful advisor to grantees and be proactive in anticipating needs and provide accurate, timely resolution of issues when they arise
  • Convene grantees to advance learning opportunities and build field capacity

Collaboration & Amplification

  • Support and professionally develop colleagues, helping to build and reinforce a collaborative culture of excellence
  • Collaborate with partners across the Program and across the Foundation to expand and amplify impact
  • Support other projects and assignments in service of Program and Foundation goals

Who We Are Looking For

Qualifications required for your success

  • A Bachelor’s degree; relevant master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • At least 10 years of work in a professional, education or philanthropic environment.
  • Excellent written communication skills with experience in producing both brief and longer written products in a timely fashion for internal and external audiences.
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills with experience conveying complex issues to internal and external audiences.

Additional Helpful Experience Includes

  • Teaching, administration or other education experience.
  • Federal, state or district-level education policy.
  • Management/strategic planning consulting.
  • Nonprofit management.
  • Philanthropic or grant development and management experience.

Benefits Information

Compensation Range: $155k – 194k

We offer a comprehensive and generous benefits package which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401 (k) retirement plan and paid time off.
