Program Officer, Special Projects

The Walton Family Foundation is seeking a skilled, highly motivated and entrepreneurial individual to join the foundation as a Program Officer for the Special Projects team. 

About the Position

The Program Officer serves as a key member of the Special Projects team and manages a diverse portfolio of work.  

Specific duties include the following: 

Relationship-building and Grantmaking

  • Manage grant relationships with long-standing grantees and conduct analysis of grant progress and report to respective boards on status of grants
  • Track grantee progress toward objectives and assist grantees in monitoring progress towards strategic goals.
  • Conduct site visits, attend public meetings, and represent the foundation at conferences and other events.
  • Identify potential new partnerships and opportunities, including potential funding partners.
  • Comfortable working in a family-directed environment and working directly with principals as required.
  • Conduct due diligence on proposals, develop internal grant documents and shepherd applications through the approval process.

Program Strategy and Implementation

  • Collaborate with the Strategy, Learning and Evaluation team to implement and refine the foundation's monitoring and evaluation program regarding legacy grants.
  • Partner with the Communications team to develop and execute a targeted communications plan to support program goals
  • Provide information and assistance as needed to Foundation board members.
  • Plan and execute special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications required for your success

  • At least 5 years of experience in grant management and evaluation
  • Bachelor degree required, Graduate degree preferred
  • Willingness to travel 10%  

Additional helpful experience includes

  • Strong knowledge of Northwest Arkansas is preferred
  • Experience negotiating large grants, contracts or financial transactions, including conducting due diligence and setting terms
  • Demonstrable time-management experience and ability to manage multiple projects  with deadlines
