Luis Gonzalez to Serve as the Walton Family Foundation’s Director of Communications

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (Sept. 1, 2026) – The Walton Family Foundation today announced the appointment of Luis Gonzalez as director of communications. With more than a decade of experience in philanthropy, Gonzalez will lead the foundation’s communications efforts, advancing its institutional priorities and the goals of its Education, Environment and Home Region programs as it implements a new five-year plan.

Gonzalez previously served as the foundation’s deputy director of communications and as a senior communications officer supporting the Home Region Program.

In his new role, Gonzalez will draw on his experience across philanthropy, government and the private sector to shape how the foundation communicates its mission, priorities and impact. A trusted advisor and proven leader in communications operations and stakeholder engagement, he will focus on elevating the foundation’s approach to strategic, family-led philanthropy. He will continue modernizing the foundation’s communications approach to expand its reach and oversee the department’s grantmaking strategy.

As the foundation’s deputy director of communications, Gonzalez spearheaded communications planning, journalism grantmaking, grantee capacity-building programs, media relations and external messaging. Prior to this, he was a senior communications officer supporting the Home Region Program, managing communications on issues related to affordable housing, transportation, K-12 education, arts and culture, workforce development and entrepreneurship.

During his nearly two-decade career in communications, Gonzalez has also worked in government and in the advertising sector, where he represented clients across diverse industries, including economic development, higher education, public health and tourism.

A native of Panama, he is fluent in English and Spanish. He holds a Bachelor of Science with a double major in marketing and business administration from the University of the Ozarks.
