To support grantee's initiative to implement steps to encourage private investment in river restoration identified at the Colorado River Basin (CRB) Stream Mitigation Summit (March 2017), including investment in several of the foundation's priority Colorado River tributaries.
To promote instream flow water rights within the Gunnison Basin and to help build support for flexible water management mechanisms that will allow agriculture lands to stay in agriculture; as well as allow the water to be temporarily dedicated for deposit into a water bank and be protected in the stream, down to the place of storage of the water bank (e.g., Lake Powell.)
To support grantee's initiative to deliver 3,000 acres of bottomland hardwood reforestation in the Mississippi portion of the Mississippi Alluvial Valley (MAV), and continued improvements in federal reforestation program policy and administration.
Funding of on-the-ground technical assistance for riparian restoration in the foundation’s proof-point river systems, and to support grantee's initiatives to continue to address invasive plant issues at the basin-wide scale and tell the story of the value of restoration and healthy rivers.
To continue to build the case for soil health practices by completing a study that explores the relationship between practices that build soil health, crop yield and changes in water quality over time.
To build on work in the Wabash River in Indiana to demonstrate how Wetland Reserve Easements (WRE) can be used in the Upper Mississippi River to complement cover crops and other practices to improve water quality.
To support work with mainstream farmers, primarily in Iowa, in support of federal and state conservation programs that provide funding for on-farm practices that improve water quality.
To improve fishery management plans (Planes de Manejos, or PdMs) for four benthic fisheries as tools for change toward sustainable fisheries; to reduce the risk of failed implementation by enhancing the scientific knowledge used in management of each fishery, building capacity among stakeholders, and incorporating the ecosystem-based approach.
To support grantee's initiative to implement the Alberstons/Safeway, Hy-Vee, and Target sustainable seafood commitments; continue the development of tools to drive efficiency in implementing sustainable seafood commitments; and complete a feasibility study for a buyer engagement strategy in Mexico.
To support the building of grantee's capacities to engage in fisheries policy and management, as well as conduct nonpartisan education and outreach on sustainable fisheries management to decision-makers.
