Charter schools continue to play a central role in education reform efforts across the United States. Charter school students now comprise more than four percent of the total public school population in the United States, a proportion that continues to grow every year. Given expanded interest in charter schools as an instrument of education reform, more than ever there is need for information about charter school performance.
