New National Poll Reveals Parent Priorities for Back to School Season

August 31, 2021
Better information on academics, better technology and personalized instruction top list of parent needs

New research funded by the Walton Family Foundation sheds light on how COVID-19 has affected parent perceptions of their child’s school and the education system more broadly. The nationwide poll of 2,017 parents was conducted by Beacon Research from August 6-10, 2021.

The poll revealed that three-fourths of parents were frustrated with the way their child’s school dealt with the pandemic. A majority of parents want schools to rethink how they educate students and develop new ways to teach children amid the ongoing COVID crisis.

The findings include insights about the types of programs and resources parents think would be most helpful to their children at this important moment. Parents placed a high priority on receiving better information about academic progress and identified a need for better technology and more personalized instruction.
