Teacher Career Satisfaction Starts with Growth, Collaboration and Flexibility

Improving outcomes for the next generation of students depends on educators staying in the field and feeling satisfied in their careers. With Gallup, the Walton Family Foundation spoke with nearly 2,000 public K-12 school teachers about what they need to stay in the profession.

Key drivers of teacher satisfaction include opportunities for professional growth, collaboration with peers and the flexibility and autonomy to ensure their students succeed. While two-thirds (66%) of teachers report being somewhat or extremely satisfied with their workplace, 90% report feeling burned out at least sometimes. Despite this, the majority want to remain in the classroom.
