It seems like every week there is news about something exciting happening in Northwest Arkansas. Whether our corner of the state is being named a hot spot for hipsters or a road trip destination for mountain bike enthusiasts, it’s clear people are talking about our home region – and rightfully so – because Northwest Arkansas is becoming a cultural, artistic and urban hub.
As the culinary scene in our downtowns continues to expand with new locally owned restaurants, it’s important to make sure our region can offer the infrastructure needed to support this burgeoning industry. Last week, NorthWest Arkansas Community College announced the expansion of its culinary arts program, which will provide a skilled workforce for the hospitality industry and train tomorrow’s food entrepreneurs.
From hiring Dr. Glenn Mack, a national culinary leader, to relocating to a state-of-the-art facility, this program is poised to become a world-class provider of culinary education. The curriculum will include a focus on butchery and charcuterie; food preservation; seasonal cooking; and artisanal foods, which will provide today’s ambitious restaurateurs with the tools they need for success.
The school’s relocation to a former industrial plant positioned along the Razorback Regional Greenway is also exciting news. Downtowns throughout Northwest Arkansas are embracing the recently completed trail as a way to connect businesses, workplaces and residential areas – and we’re thrilled that spaces are being cultivated to cater to our growing population.
Our communities’ drive and forward-thinking creativity inspire our efforts to make Northwest Arkansas the best place to live, work and play.
