To improve fishery management plans (Planes de Manejos, or PdMs) for four benthic fisheries as tools for change toward sustainable fisheries; to reduce the risk of failed implementation by enhancing the scientific knowledge used in management of each fishery, building capacity among stakeholders, and incorporating the ecosystem-based approach.
To continue work through the AGree partnership to better take advantage of federal agricultural subsidies, including crop insurance, to accelerate the adoption of conservation practices; particularly those related to cover crops, nutrient management and other practices that can improve water quality.
To support grantee's initiative to implement the Alberstons/Safeway, Hy-Vee, and Target sustainable seafood commitments; continue the development of tools to drive efficiency in implementing sustainable seafood commitments; and complete a feasibility study for a buyer engagement strategy in Mexico.
To support the building of grantee's capacities to engage in fisheries policy and management, as well as conduct nonpartisan education and outreach on sustainable fisheries management to decision-makers.
